Waste Winder Case Overview

A long-time customer in printing and converting needed a better way to handle trim waste. Their previous system used a compressed air vacuum that was inefficient, noisy, and fed waste material into large holding bins that required regular tending.

Challenges With the Vacuum System

  • Loud
  • Burdensome for operator
  • Large footprint
  • Prone to clogging
  • Inefficient
  • Messy

Results

Lehnen Industrial designed and built custom equipment that addressed all of the previous challenges. Instead of using a vacuum system, we created a machine that neatly winds the ribbon of trimmed waste onto bobbins. We used torque motors and a traversing thread guide to evenly dispense the ribbon and maintain precise tension, regardless of the diameter of the bobbin, to eliminate breakage. The winders are silent, will not clog, save space and energy, and are easy to maintain and operate.

“[Lehnen Industrial excels at] clever solutions, open dialogue, and a desire to provide the best solution.”
